What Happens To Your Body During a 5-Day Fast
We hear a lot about fasting these days—intermittent fasting, juice fasting, water fasting. But what actually happens in your body when you stop eating for a few days?
And more importantly—is there a way to fast that helps your body heal, without starving yourself or losing muscle?
This is Part 1 of a 2-part series on the science and strategy behind 5-day fasting. Today, I’ll walk you through what happens inside your body each day. In Part 2, I’ll explain how to do it safely, what to consume (and avoid), and how to modify it for your needs.
Day 1: Your Body Uses What’s Left in the Tank
Your body starts using stored sugar (glycogen). You might feel tired or crave carbs, but your blood sugar begins to stabilize. Think of it like switching from gasoline to battery power.
Day 2: Fat Burning Begins
With glycogen nearly gone, your body starts using fat as fuel. Inflammation begins to decrease. You’re no longer just "not eating"—you’re healing.
Day 3: Cellular Spring Cleaning (Autophagy)
Cells start recycling damaged parts—called autophagy. You may feel lighter, mentally and physically. Like taking out the cellular garbage.
Day 4: Brain Power and Repair Mode
Ketones become your primary fuel—clean, brain-boosting energy. You may feel sharper and more stable. You’re not just surviving—you’re upgrading.
Day 5: Cellular Rebirth Begins
Stem cells activate and begin rebuilding tissues. This supports immune health and cellular regeneration. Old cells out, new cells in.
Important: Fasting isn’t right for everyone. If you’re pregnant, diabetic, or on medications, always check with your doctor first.
Coming up in Part 2: Why it needs to be 5 days, why water and juice fasts often miss the mark, what to consume to protect muscle and enhance repair, and how ProLon compares to a DIY approach.
